About Dr Diana Tran

Dr Diana Tran, Dermatologist

Dr Diana Tran — MBBS, FACD

Dr Diana Tran is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists and a highly regarded specialist in the diagnosis and management of conditions affecting the skin, hair, nails and mucosa. She graduated in Medicine from the University of Melbourne in 1995 and went on to build an exceptionally broad and rigorous training background, including an elective in Emergency and Intensive Care at the University of California, Irvine, medical residency at St. Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, and a term as Medical Registrar at Austin Hospital.

Dr Tran further honed her expertise as a Dermatology Registrar in the United Kingdom (The Royal Hospital Haslar) and in Singapore (The National Skin Centre), before completing her specialist dermatology training across some of Sydney's leading teaching hospitals, including Royal North Shore, Royal Prince Alfred, Liverpool Hospital and the Skin & Cancer Foundation. This international training has given her a rare depth of clinical experience across a wide range of skin conditions and patient populations.

Since returning to Melbourne, Dr Tran has practised extensively across both public and private settings, including as a dermatology consultant and clinical supervisor at Monash Medical Hospital, at the Melanoma Clinic within the Skin Health Institute, and at Waverley Private Hospital, as well as consulting at Collins Street specialist clinics. Today she consults exclusively from her long-established Toorak suites, where she is particularly known for her skill in managing complex and often difficult-to-treat medical skin conditions, including severe and recalcitrant acne, eczema, psoriasis (including biologic therapies), and conditions specific to Asian skin. Patients consistently value her thorough, compassionate approach and her commitment to long-term, expert care.

Patient-centred Care

Why Consult Dr Tran

Three decades of clinical experience

Practising dermatology since 1995, with an unusually broad general medical background — including emergency medicine, intensive care and internal medicine — built across four countries. This matters because skin disease is frequently a marker of underlying systemic illness, not simply a condition of the skin itself.

Covers the full spectrum of skin disease

From common presentations through to alopecia and other less frequently referred conditions.

Special interest in complex, medical cases

Particular depth in challenging and treatment-resistant skin conditions that haven't responded elsewhere.

Experience across cultures and skin types

Trained and practised in the UK, Singapore and the US as well as Australia, managing skin disease across diverse ethnicities and skin types.

Patient-driven, empathetic care

Approachable, and genuinely focused on understanding the person behind the presentation.

Dedicated and highly regarded

A driven, respected clinician known for an attentive, nuanced approach to treatment planning.

Areas of Expertise

Diverse skin types & backgrounds

Extensive experience managing skin conditions across patients of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, with care tailored to each individual's skin type.

Acne

Including recalcitrant and late-onset presentations that haven't responded to earlier treatment.

Psoriasis

Biologic therapy for moderate-to-severe disease, alongside conventional systemic treatment.

Eczema & dermatitis

Immune-targeted therapy for atopic and other inflammatory dermatitis.

Alopecia (hair loss)

Affecting both men and women — hair loss can carry the same psychological impact as more visible skin conditions, and is assessed and managed accordingly.

Diseases of skin colour

Expertise in diagnosing and managing conditions in Asian and darker skin, which often present and respond differently to treatment. Management of pigmentation disorders, melasma, vitiligo and keloid scarring — conditions requiring skin-type-specific treatment, with particular depth of experience in Asian skin.

Services

Medical dermatology

Patient-driven management of common conditions

A focus on understanding and addressing the patient's concerns — not just treating the skin condition itself.

Management of chronic skin conditions

Building a long-term, trusting doctor–patient relationship to monitor chronic skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, and being accessible to help manage flares or concerns whenever possible.

Recalcitrant, atypical or challenging rashes

Utilising a systematic, scientific, "investigative" approach to guide management.

Skin cancer assessment & surveillance
Early detection, medical management and surgical excision of skin cancers including melanoma, alongside preventative surveillance.
Cosmeceuticals & skin health
Evidence-based cosmeceutical regimens and skin health optimisation, tailored to skin type and condition.
